NATIONAL servicemen and their families can look forward to round the clock activities and more buzz in a bigger and better Safra Toa Payoh clubhouse when it is up by 2013.
Facilities will include Toa Payoh's first 24-hour bowling centre, a six-lane swimming pool, indoor playground and schools that will offer education and leisure programmes to members and their families.
To pull in younger and hipper crowd, entertainment outlets such as a beer garden and lounge with live band performances will be also be built.
The new facilities and offerings are likely to make Toa Payoh the most popular among Safra's five clubhouses islandwide, said Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean at an event at the club last night.
Mr Teo said he expects the number of visitors to the new Toa Payoh clubhouse to more than double to 90,000 a month when it opens. The $52 million, 22,650 sqm, clubhouse will be re-built from scratch and will be the biggest in its stable.
Safra Toa Payoh is Singapore's oldest clubhouse for NSmen and was a brainchild of the late former Deputy Prime Minister Goh Keng Swee. Since its opening in 1975, the clubhouse has been refurbished three times, the most recent in 1996.
