Stop treating Little Guilin as a dumping ground!

little_guilin_is_not_a_dumping_ground-thumbnail.jpg

STOMPer Mountaineer is upset that visitors have been treating Little Guilin as a dumping ground and throwing heaps of rubbish into the lake there.

In an email to STOMP today (Oct 8), the STOMPer says:

“These pictures were taken at Little Guilin at Bt Batok East Ave 5. The lake which was previously a disused granite quarry is a haven of peace for man and birds. On Sundays, hordes of anglers come here to pass the day. However, of late, the lake has become a dumping ground for many visitors.

“You can see plastic bottles, cups, metal cans, papers and dead leaves floating in the clear water.

“This is a famous lake where newlyweds come here on weekends to shoot their wedding photographs.

“I hope the residents in the vicinity will keep the lake clean and green so that our Little Guilin will become as well known as Sentosa or Genting Highlands.”

Foreign workers leave wooded area in mess after picnic

foreign_workers_leave_wooded_area_in_mess-thumbnail.jpg

Pieces of discarded wood, water containers and even supermarket trolleys litter this patch of forest at Brickland Road. STOMPer Indiana Jones says this is the work of foreign workers, who have their picnics here on off days.

Here's what the concerned STOMPer wrote in an email today (Oct 4):

"These pictures were taken at a forested area beside an old army camp at Brickland Road.

"While trekking through the forest one day I was surprised to see a jungle clearing that had been used as a picnic ground by foreign workers.

"After their weekly picnics they left behind supermarket trolleys, chairs and wooden boards in the forest.

"Also found discarded were a pail, a water container, a canvas sheet, candles and pieces of plywood.

"This causes pollution to our forest and the destruction of the habitat poses a threat to our flora and fauna."
