FORMER national head coach Liu Guodong is seeking an explanation from the Singapore Table Tennis Association president Lee Bee Wah over recent comments made about him.
He will fly back to Singapore for the answers if he does not hear from her soon.
In a telephone interview with The Straits Times yesterday, Liu revealed that he tried calling Ms Lee, but she could not be reached.
'I will give her a few days to respond - possibly up to next Saturday (May 16). I need to have a face-to-face discussion with her,' he said from Beijing.
'This is maddening. How can she say all that? It affects my future and my job. I won't tolerate this verbal attack.'
On Tuesday, Ms Lee had explained to the press why Liu was not nominated for the Singapore Sports Awards' Coach of the Year despite helping to deliver the country's first Olympic medal in 48 years.
She said that the decision was taken by a committee within the association, added: 'Results are not the only criterion to the STTA.
'A Coach of the Year has to be professional, have integrity, be able to gel the team and is well-respected by all his players.'
These questions about his character have left Liu furious.
However, he said that he has not decided if he wants to engage a lawyer.
'I'm thinking about it,' he said. 'But it's only right for me to give her some time to respond. I'll decide in the coming days.' Ms Lee was not contactable by press time.
