Frozen chicken was halal

A WOMAN employer was charged on Thursday with four counts of maid abuse.
Administration executive Mariam Ahmad, 38, is alleged to have used a frozen chicken to hit the face of Indonesian domestic worker Mariasih on Nov 24, 2006.
Six days later, she allegedly slapped the 24-year-old maid on her left cheek and twisted her left ear in the kitchen of her Hougang flat. Earlier on April 15 that year, she is said to have hit the maid's left arm with a belt.
The last alleged incident on March 27, 2007 states that she knocked the maid hard on the head and punched her on the cheek.
Mariam, who is represented by Mr Yusfiyanto Yatiman, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to her. A pre-trial conference has been set for Nov 9.
If found guilty, she can be jailed for up to 18 months and/or fined up to $1,500 on each charge.
