French researchers: High temperatures ineffective against coronavirus

The novel coronavirus can survive in high temperatures, researchers said, casting doubt on suggestions that the threat will subside in the summer.

Researchers from the University of Aix-Marseille in France, led by Remi Charrel and Boris Pastorino, found that the virus survived in 140-degree Fahrenheit temperatures typically used to disinfect research labs.

It took 15 minutes of exposure to 197.6-degree temperatures to kill the virus.

Researchers did say the lower temperature should be sufficient to deactivate the virus in samples with smaller loads but added that the higher temperature was necessary for larger loads and concluded that disinfecting chemicals were a better option.

Earlier research has reached similar conclusions.

A National Academies of Sciences (NAS) panel told the White House in early April that previous research suggesting a connection between temperature and the virus's transmissibility was flawed.

"There is some evidence to suggest that [the coronavirus] may transmit less efficiently in environments with higher ambient temperature and humidity; however, given the lack of host immunity globally, this reduction in transmission efficiency may not lead to a significant reduction in disease spread" without efforts such as social distancing, the NAS report stated, noting that SARS and MERS are not seasonal.

eh strawberry. this info get from where ah? this info quoted in fahrenheit? Aix-Marseille will use celsius. think most people will see 197.6 and start using flamethrower to disinfect...:laugh:

anyway. I got a converter out and it translates to 92 degrees.

@nayr69sg . 92 leh... much higher than 25 so how?? chemical oxidants and/or acids only then?

click the title. source link is there!

Yeah.

So the theory about temperature being a factor for ASEAN is debunked.

So maybe BCG vaccine?

Does BCG bolster one's immunity against COVID-19?

Dear Editor

Does BCG bolster one's immunity against COVID-19?

Early evidence from the current COVID-19 pandemic suggests that the disease intensity and case fatality rate vary in different parts of the world. Better understanding of the epidemiological characteristics of COVID-19, as to why people living in certain nations are more susceptible, would help us effectively control this pandemic. These insights could potentially aid treatment and vaccine development.

It has been postulated that patients with co-morbidities such as diabetes and hypertension which are treated with Angiotensin Converting Enzyme [ACE] Inhibitor drugs are at higher risk for developing severe disease due to COVID 19. Patients on ACE inhibitors have greater expression of ACE 2 receptors which have been shown to be the entry point into human cells for COVID-19 virus. [1] This leads to the corollary that any drug or vaccine which has the potential to increase the level of ACE may help down regulate the expression of ACE2 receptors, thereby having some beneficial effect on the host immune system against COVID-19. Earlier animal studies have shown that ACE like activity increased with inflammation induced by Bacillus Calmette–Guérin (BCG) and captopril a competitive inhibitor of ACE activity, supressed the induction of the inflammatory response in both lungs and spleen. [2]

BCG vaccine’s heterologous beneficial effect against non-tuberculosis infections is well known. The vaccine works on the innate immune system and produces a memory like response termed “trained immunity” which helps in faster recognition triggering a quicker inflammatory response. [3] Recent studies also have suggested that it has the potential to protect against experimental infection with yellow fever vaccine strain [4] and to enhance immune responses to other vaccines in general including influenza vaccination. [5]

In many industrialised nations BCG vaccination has been limited to children at risk. However, in most of the low-middle income countries it is routinely given at birth. Whether the vaccination status of the past protects against the present epidemic of COVID-19 and alters its course is a question that time will soon answer. There is an online open access database that contains current and past BCG policies and practices for over 180 countries (http://www.bcgatlas.org/). It appears that there is a trend that suggests slower spread of the virus in countries where there is a current national BCG vaccination policy for all (see our table: https://myjournalreviews.wordpress.com/2020/03/30/table/ )

Given the safety of the BCG vaccine, its low cost and easy availability, it is worth considering it as a possible preventive strategy in the interim while other vaccine trials are underway.

Oh dear, that means Xi Jinping's reassurances that the pandemic will 'get better' in the summer months were nothing but lies. Who would have thought?

By the way, go find out what's happening in Guangzhou and Harbin now.

This 197.6-degree is talking about killing the core which is our own DNA composition part of the 'Covid' not the protein cover which can usually be neutralized by fever itself if our basic immunity system is working well.

Yesterday's weather is the start of our HOT season watch the Covid numbers fall in the next few days.

how can you guys read a table so quickly without a % or a per '000? It all looks like an ant's nest to me.
