TO educate foreign workers on safe cycling, a clinic was conducted for 500 them on Saturday.
The North East Safe Cycling Clinic session was held at a workers dormitory at Tampines Place.
More than 20 foreign workers have been issued warnings in Tampines since cycling by-laws were implemented in March this year.
Foreign workers also made up a third of cyclist fatalities in 2009.
=> And how many Sporns were killed by them?
The clinic not only educates foreign workers on safe cycling skills, but also provides them with a free bell as part of efforts to encourage cyclists to equip themselves with basic safe cycling items.
For most foreign workers, 'cycling is cheap and convenient way of getting from one place to another', said Ms Irene Ng, MP for Tampines GRC, at the inaugural session of the safe cycling clinic.
'I think most of you are very good and experienced cyclists. However, even the most experienced cyclists would not be safe or would hurt others if he or she does not obey the traffic rules or adopt safe cycling habits.'
Ms Ng also said she hoped the foreign workers would find the session useful and encouraged them to cycle safely for their own welfare.
