A child named Bin Laden claimed, threats, a pointed weapon: concern at the Souricette nursery, in Nevers,” translated from “Un enfant nommé Ben Laden réclamé, des menaces, une arme pointée : inquiétude à la crèche Souricette, à Nevers,” by Marlène Martin, Le Journal Du Centre, November 24, 2020 (thanks to Mason):
Individuals frightened the staff of the Souricette nursery in Nevers on the evening of Monday, November 23 and on the following day at noon. One asked for a child on behalf of Osama bin Laden, the other threatened a child minder with a weapon. An investigation has been opened.
On Monday 23 November, around 6.30 p.m., an individual presented himself to the Souricette collective crèche, located on rue Filiato in Nevers. While all the children were gone, he said he was picking up a child named “Osama Bin Laden”. He challenged the staff, who would not let him in. The man allegedly left laughing and verbally threatened a child minder.
The police were then notified, a complaint was filed and a security protocol was immediately put in place.
Video surveillance could be utilized
Tuesday the 24th, around noon, outside the same nursery, a child minder who was taking her break and another located a little further away said they heard a metallic noise that could resemble the loading of a weapon. The two women reportedly saw one or two men, depending on the version, one of whom pointed his gun at them from a relatively distant distance. This does not allow to say if the weapon was a dummy or not. They then took refuge inside the nursery.
Are they the same people? An investigation has been opened to determine this. CCTV images should be able to be used.
Reinforcement of police teams
“Surveillance and security measures have been put in place jointly between the national police and the municipal police, which will strengthen their presence on all the city’s facilities and increase the number of patrols”, assures the mayor of Nevers, Denis Thuriot, who visited the site on Tuesday afternoon.
Is this a very bad joke – plastic bullets found on the ground might suggest so – or a real shootout in the making? At the moment, the investigation is only in its early stages.
“This proves that in Nevers, we are not more exposed than elsewhere, but not less either,” said the mayor, who is pleased that the municipal police are armed and that video surveillance is in place.
The staff have been heard and must make a description to allow the individuals to be identified. They will also be offered a psychological interview.
