The statements by lawyers of Abdallah Ahmed-Osman, suspected of being the perpetrator of the April 4, 2020 attack in Romans-sur-Isère, prompted the civil parties to react strongly.
Did Abdallah Ahmed-Osman commit a terrorist attack in Romans-sur-Isère? On April 4, 2020, in the city center, he killed two people with a knife and injured five others. While an anti-terrorism judge is leading the investigation, the lawyers of the alleged terrorist insist, in Le Dauphiné Libéré of December 7, that “religion neither conditioned nor motivated his decision to act.” Words to which the lawyers of the civil parties strongly reacted.
“To claim today that his actions have no terrorist connotation is untrue,” Me Alain and Guillaume Fort insist. They explain: “From the start of the investigations, the investigators emphasized that while Abdallah Ahmed-Osman presented psychological fragility, this fragility was accompanied by a religious inclination suggesting a form of terrorist radicalization. Psychiatric experts are perfectly clear in the conclusion of their expertise: Abdallah Ahmed-Osman has psychological disorders, but legitimizes his actions by hatred of disbelievers, hatred borrowed from radical Islamist ideology.”
“He complained about living in a land of disbelievers”
The lawyers insist: “While Mr. Osman was granted political refugee status, handwritten notes were found at his home in which he complained of living in a country of infidels. So when he was questioned, he said prayers. Finally, some of his friends have declared in court proceedings that he is in favor of the full application of Sharia law.”
Me Alain and Guillaume Fort would like to recall the horror of April 4, 2020. “Julien Vinson was stabbed 22 times in the head and chest, and murdered in front of his 13-year-old son. Jean-François S. was also struck with a butcher’s knife and owes his life to pure luck. Mrs. Breyton witnessed the murder of one of her clients in her butcher’s shop a few yards away. The families of the victims are still in shock at the terrible scenes inflicted on them by Abdallah Ahmed-Osman.”
