A man armed with a knife, suspected of having assaulted several people in the street in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin), was overpowered and arrested by an off-duty police officer on avenue de Colmar around 5 p.m. this Saturday according to our information. The suspect is said to have first attacked, with his bladed weapon, a passer-by who was going to retrieve his car. The victim reportedly managed to lock himself in his vehicle and drive away, to avoid being stabbed.
The attacker then attacked a woman accompanied by her two children, according to a source close to the case. It was then that an off-duty policeman, witness to this scene, intervened, managing to control the attacker. The latter allegedly tried to stab the official, who was cut in one hand. He also suffered shoulder and knee injuries. 45 days of total incapacity for work (ITT) were attributed to him, we learned.
The police officers of the specialized field brigade (BST) arrested the attacker, who was taken into custody. The latter will undergo medical examinations. He spoke mainly in Arabic, but notably remarked in French: “You will all go to hell because of what you are doing in Palestine.”
The policeman who intervened first was taken to hospital, as was the mother who is in shock. An investigation was opened and entrusted to the judicial police. The motivations and the profile of the suspect will have to be determined.
On Twitter, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin thanked the “brave policeman who, outside of his service, arrested a very threatening individual. Thanks to his intervention, no casualties are to be deplored.”
