SHAH ALAM: Quick action from a police patrol team, who were responding to a 999 call, resulted in the arrest of four robbery suspects at a hypermarket in Kuala Selangor.
They were caught in the act by a member of the public at 4am on Fri*day.
Two of them were scaling the wall while the other two helped to hoist up two oxy-acetylene gas tanks to the roof using bed sheets.
The four then broke through the roof of the hypermarket and entered the premises through the generator room, said Selangor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan.
As the suspects were cutting through an ATM machine with blow-torches, policemen arrived five minutes later and arrested them.
“The officers’ quick response enabled us to capture the suspects red-handed and the other two accomplices who were keeping watch outside.
“This makes it the third attempt by thieves who tried to break into an ATM in Kuala Selangor this year that have been foiled by our officers,” he added.
DCP Mohd Shukri said that although there were security guards stationed at the hypermarket, they did not notice the suspects trying to break into the ATM.
Police confiscated the two tanks and blow-torches, ski masks, black spray paint and house-breaking tools.
The suspects, who are all locals aged between 23 and 27, would be charged soon.
