Four killed, one injured in two road accidents

KUCHING: Four men were killed and one seriously injured in two road accidents involving an express bus, a pick-up truck, a lorry and a car along the Pan Borneo Highway, some 200km from here. The first tragedy happened at KM41 on the Sri Aman-Serian Road at 9.45am yesterday when a car travelling from Kuching towards Bintulu crashed head-on into an oncoming express bus at a turning. Car driver, Billy Joe, 25, from Kuching, died on the spot. The passenger, Mohd Subrie Sulaiman, 25, sustained serious injuries and was sent to the Sri Aman hospital.

Lubok Antu district police chief DSP Bidol Noyeng said the bus driver and about 30 passengers, who were travelling from Miri towards Kuching, escaped unscathed. He said it was raining yesterday morning and the road was believed to be slippery at the time of the accident. The second tragedy happened at about the same time near the junction towards Betong, about 61km from Sri Aman. A pick-up truck travelling from Sri Aman to Betong crashed with a lorry travelling from the opposite direction from Sibu heading towards Kuching. The driver of the pick-up truck Harry Kuhoe, 43, from Serian and two passengers Wan Malik Wan Oya, 52, and Abg Murny Abg Sepawi, 44, from Sri Aman were killed.
