Four held for having illegal firearms

SANDAKAN: Four crew members of a fishing trawler were arrested for possessing illegal firearms in the waters off Pulau Berhala here.

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency officers had stopped a trawler for a routine inspection at 7pm on Sunday, when they discovered the weapons in the vessel.

Maritime 17 enforcement chief Kapt Mohd Onn Khalil said his officers seized two home-made bakakuk (shotguns), a shotgun and 32 cartridges from the vessel.

He said three were Filipinos while the fourth suspect was a 60-year-old local man, believed to be the trawler’s owner.
