A former technical officer was jailed for four weeks and ordered to pay a penalty of $1,600 for corruption on Friday.
Ahmad Aman, 54, admitted to corruptly accepting $800 from Mr Ng Ah Tai, a project supervisor of Ley Choon Construction and Engineering, in return for not reporting truthfully to his employer, SP PowerGrid (SPPG), that the cable damage was caused by Ley Choon.
A district court heard that Ahmad, now unemployed, was assigned to investigate a case of power street lighting outage at Marina Street on Mar 5, 2011.
Freelance cable jointer Chua Kar Leng, who was working as a subcontractor for SPPG's term contractor United Works, was called to assess the situation. He found that the damage caused by Ley Choon was not serious.
