The former accounts and administrative manager of SA Dental Supply was jailed 4 1/2 years on Friday for misappropriating more than $1.03 million from her employer.
A district court heard that Chew Seow Yuen, 41, joined the firm in December 2008 and her duties included preparing cheques for suppliers and the payment vouchers.
As managing director Leow Kee Peng, 58, was overseas frequently, he entrusted Chew with blank cheques that have signed by him so that payments could be made speedily.
Sometime in the middle of 2011, he found out from other employees that Chew was not coming to work regularly. She also appeared to be avoiding him when he was back here.
