SELANGOR, Malaysia - A 65-year-old former kindergarten teacher who screamed for help during a robbery at her shophouse was smothered to death with a pillow by one of two masked intruders.
Sadariah Tohbasar Ahmad's grandson Mohd Hafizul Azwan Mohd Aznan, 17, was also tied up as the men ransacked the shophouse of cash and jewellery worth about RM2,000 (S$800).
Earlier, Sadariah, who made ends meet by working as a seamstress and pastry maker, was punched by one of the robbers when she began screaming.
She was then smothered to death with a pillow.
Sabak Bernam police chief Supt Noor Mushar Mohamad said police found the body of the victim, who was previously a teacher for Community Development Department (Kemas), on the floor of the living room.
Her forehead was swollen as a result of the punch during the hold-up at 4.45am.
Noor Mushar said the body was sent to the Tengku Ampuan Jemaah Sabak Ber- nam Hospital.
Mohd Hafizul told police he was asleep in the same room as the victim when the robbers entered the premises through the back door.
He said they were tied up and when his grandmother screamed for help, one of the robbers punched her and then, smothered her to death.
