Former employment agent fined for lying
Posted: 17 January 2012 1825 hrs
SINGAPORE: A former employment agent was slapped with a S$5,000 fine on Tuesday for falsely declaring the occupation of a foreigner in a work pass application.
34-year-old Antony Kruz Sasi, who was then working for Happy Maids Happy Homes at Far East Shopping Centre, knew that the foreign employee was not eligible for an S Pass.
Mid-level skilled foreigners such as technicians who have a diploma or degree and who earn at least S$2,000 per month can apply for an S Pass.
The court heard that in March 2011, Antony Kruz Sasi was helping a rice importer, Chua Choon Hwa from Havelock International, apply for a work pass for a general worker whose duties include packing rice and delivering the rice to customers.
But Antony applied for an S Pass instead, by indicating the worker's occupation as an assistant technician in the online application form.
Antony could have been jailed up to 12 months or fined a maximum of S$15,000 under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act.
In another case, a 50-year-old waste management company director was charged with making false declarations in his employees' work pass renewals and applications.
Poh Seng Choon faced 12 charges in all.
His case will be heard again on 7 February.
