Former croupier jailed for colluding with patron to cheat MBS casino
SINGAPORE: A former croupier was sentenced to three months' jail on Thursday for colluding with a patron to cheat Marina Bay Sands casino.
Oke Ching Siang, 31, then a dealer at the casino, colluded with 29-year-old Maricel Siason Belonio in June this year.
Oke had obtained cash chips from the table float and added them to Belonio's wagers or placed wagers for her.
As a result, the casino was said to have made a loss of about $2,600.
The court was told Belonio had confided in Oke her financial problems, and so he decided to help her out.
In mitigation, the court heard that Oke is the sole breadwinner and is married with three children.
Oke has made full restitution of about $2,600.
The maximum penalty for the offence under the Casino Control Act is a jail term of seven years and $150,000 fine.
In another separate case, a business and property consultant was sentenced to three weeks' jail for cheating at Marina Bay Sands casino.
Kaushal Rami, 37, pleaded guilty to placing additional cash chips after the result of the games were known.
The Indian national had done so on two separate days in June this year.
Kaushal made more than $3,600 from the offences. He has since made full restitution of $3,600.
Kaushal is appealing against the sentence and is out on $60,000 bail. - CNA/de
