SINGAPORE: A former bouncer with St James Power Station nightclub who beat up a patron so badly that a shoe print was left on the victim's face, was on Thursday sentenced to two months' jail.
35-year-old Ahmad Zaki Mohd Said was found guilty earlier this month of assaulting crane operator Mr Chee Thin Kam in February 2012, after an eight-day trial.
Ahmad Zaki committed the offence with two other bouncers, 26-year-old Firdauz Ismail and 31-year-old Iskandar Sanip.
The assault left 30-year-old Mr Chee with a shoe print on his face, which prompted District Judge Low Wee Ping to say that it is the first time his court has seen such an injury.
A fourth bouncer, 34-year-old Mazlan Arsad was convicted of using criminal force to snatch the mobile phone belonging to Mr Chee's wife, Ms Chan Chai Yee.
At the time of the offence, two of the bouncers were trying to get Mr Chee and his friend to stop smoking in the nightclub.
Mr Chee was escorted out of the nightclub, and he then hurled vulgarities at the two bouncers.
One of the two bouncers then tripped Mr Chee.
They started to beat up the patron, and Mr Chee was kicked in his face.
An upset Mr Chee then confronted a security officer (who is not part of the group of four bouncers) and hurled vulgarities at him.
Ahmad Zaki, Firdauz and Iskandar, along with other security officers then chased Mr Chee out and continued to beat him up.
During the hearing, Judge Low also expressed his puzzlement that the police issued licences to nightclub security officers when they had been convicted.
He said that while the court is "comforted that bouncers have to be licensed by police", he is curious that Firdauz was given the licence to be a bouncer, even though he was convicted in 2011 of beating three patrons at the same club.
Ahmad Zaki is the last of the four to be sentenced.
Firdauz and Iskandar were each sentenced to between three weeks and three months' jail.
Mazlan was fined S$1,500 for snatching the mobile phone. - CNA/nd
