SINGAPORE: Foreigners studying, visiting and working in Singapore on a long-term basis will soon have to pay more for a new long-term visit pass card.

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) is introducing a new long-term pass card on Wednesday. It will issue the first batch of pass cards to foreigners who are in Singapore on long-term visits.

These include foreign spouses, children or parents of Singapore citizens, mothers who are accompanying their school-going children, and foreigners seeking long-term stay to look for jobs in Singapore.
The first batch of new pass cards will be issued to applicants who have submitted their applications online via ICA's e-VP system.

During the one-month soft launch, foreigners will pay S$40 for the new long-term visit pass. Applicants also have to pay a visa processing fee of S$30 if they come from a visa-required country.

From mid-September, the cost of the new pass will be increased to S$60, plus an additional processing fee of S$30.

Foreigners who are holding a Student's Pass, Employment Pass and Dependant's Pass will be issued with the new long-term pass card in subsequent phases.
The new card is green and carries a design that is similar to the national identity card that Singapore citizens and permanent residents carry. It will also have enhanced security features to deter forgery and fraudulent use of the card.
