Singaporeans are fully aware of this country's rise from the backwaters of the Riau Archipelago on the backs of foreigners and migrants and the seed planted by Raffles, a Briton helping to create an empire and build world trade.
Foreigners of all hues and creed are welcome and always are welcome but the locals do need assurance and most of all a job. A job that commensurates with their qualification and in return good work will be done.
We have no qualms ;
1) If you bring in capital, skills where there are genuine shortage and a dollop of diligence
2) If you screw our chicks, after all we gave the world the original no holds barred Sarong Party Girl (SPG) and we are proud of it. They were there when we were in the entrepot trade, they were there when the British and New Zealand bases were here. A class act by any means. We do recognise that its a colourful world and our babes are no different.
3) If you rent or buy houses and property while locals across the income spectrum have a decent bite of the cherry. Just play by the rules that all countries have in ownership of homes and property.
4) If you avail yourself to the same standard and scale of justice that a local faces when an error of judgement or a moment of madness lands you in the criminal pile
5) If you stand in line like everyone else and wait your turn like decent folks when patronising restaurants and service outlets.
6) If you join us in telling this government that appear to be beholden to cheap labour, exploitive employers and discrimination.
In the meantime, enjoy this country and treat it like a home.
