Foreign women rescued from vice ring
KOTA KINABALU: Police rescued seven Indonesian women from a prostitution ring based in Inanam and detained two runners, who are Malaysians, earlier this week.
City police chief Assistant Commissioner Jauteh Dikun said following a tip-off, police made the bust at a unit in Nountun Apartments on Monday at 2.15pm.
"We found seven female victims, aged between 20 to 41 years old, kept in the house.
"We also detained a 42-year-old man originally from Selangor and a 20-year-old female from Keningau, who we believe run the operation and handle the clients.
"The case will be investigated under Section 13 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act," he told reporters at the Karamunsing police station here yesterday.
Jauteh said all the victims came into the country legally, with some being promised jobs such as working in restaurants and coffee shops.
"The modus operandi was that the victims were not allowed to leave the house.
"Any demand or clients will be handled by the two agents.
"We are still investigating how long this syndicate has been active.
"However, the record shows that some of the victims have been here for a year while some arrived just a few days before the bust."
