Flood victims take refuge at train station
RANTAU PANJANG: The rising water level at Sungai Golok and heavy rain over the past few days have forced 67 people to be evacuated when flood waters submerged a number of areas in Kelantan.
According to a Kelantan police flood operations room spokesman, 21 families were evacuated at 11am yesterday when the waters rose above a metre at their residents.
“The residents, mostly from Kampung Pohon Tanjung, Lalang Pepuyu, Kubang Rambutan and surrounding areas, were moved temporarily to the KTMB station in Rantau Panjang,” the spokesman told Bernama Saturday.
He added that the Jalan Pohon Tanjung to Jeram Perdah (Old Rantau Panjang) road and the Jalan Rantau Panjang to Lalang Pepuyu road were also closed to traffic.
He said the water level reading at Sungai Golok showed 10.21m, well above the danger level of 9m.
“Residents near Sungai Golok and other rivers in the state have been advised to be prepared for evacuation due to an imminent flood,” he said.
