A flight attendant was fined $5,000 on Wednesday for threatening to upload a video of a woman stripping herself on the Internet.
Kishenraj Rengaraj, 22, admitted threatening to injure the reputation of the 21-year-old bartender and causing her alarm in January last year.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Ailene Chou said the victim came to know Kishenraj via Internet webpage, Alamak.com, and the pair exchanged mobile numbers in early January last year. He asked to meet her and the woman said she would do so if he paid her $300 which she needed for her room rental fee.
On Jan 10 last year, the pair had a video chat over Facetime when he offered to give her $200 for video sex. From his home in Toa Payoh, he sent a screenshot of his online banking account details to prove that he would transfer the money to her account and she agreed. The victim then stripped and played with her private parts over Facetime. He ended the video chat after a few minutes but when he did not transfer the money as promised, the victim contacted him via mobile chat platform WhatsApp, demanding that he transfer $200 to her. He refused and threatened to send her text messages alleging that he had recorded the video of the victim's naked video on the Internet, thus causing her alarm.
