Five youths arrested for vandalism

SINGAPORE: Five youths have been arrested for vandalising electrical meter boxes.
The group, aged between 15 and 21, were nabbed in the vicinity of Yishun Street 72 on April 16.
Police had received a complaint from a resident in Yishun on April 13.
The complainant had said that the electrical meter unit outside his home had been tampered with, resulting in power failure.
Officers at the scene also found other electrical meter units tampered with.
In some cases, the meter boxes covering the units were damaged.
Initial investigations reveal that the five youths may be responsible for other similar cases in Yishun.
If convicted of vandalism, they could be fined up to S$2,000 or jailed up to three years.
A convicted male person who is 50 years old or below, may also be given between three and eight strokes of the cane.
