Amornthep Seesai (seated with cap) denies sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl, whose prostitute mother has admitted to selling in exchange for drugs.

Pathum Thani provincial police chief Pol Maj Gen Smith Mukdasanit said the child’s aunt filed a complaint to the Paveena Foundation for Children alleging that the 34-year-old woman, who goes by the alias Noi, had sold her daughter for sex to Amornthep Seesai, 48.

Ms Noi was apprehended on Sept 4 at her rented home in Thanyaburi district. Mr Amornthep fled from police, but was later tracked down and arrested in Ayutthaya’s Bang Pa-in district on Sept 7.

The woman confessed that she is a prostitute and that Mr Amorthep is a frequent customer of hers.

She said he had waited for the child - who lives with her father and aunt - before school and tricked the five-year-old into coming with her to meet Mr Amornthep.

Ms Noi told police that she is given methamphetamine, or yaba, in return for her services.

Police charged the woman with human trafficking.

Mr Amornthep, denied all accusations, but police later discovered that the man had five outstanding arrest warrants in Uttaradit province for rape, defamation, and fraud. A urine test also revealed that the suspect had a drug in his system at the time of arrest.

Police will charge Mr Amornthep with human trafficking in addition to his previous charges.

Social Development and Human Security Minister Paveena Hongsakul said her ministry has now stepped in to care for the victim and her family.
