SABAK BERNAM: THREE in a family were among five people killed in an accident when their car collided with an oncoming three-tonne lorry at Km70, Jalan Klang-Teluk Intan, near Kampung Parit Tujuh, here, yesterday.

In the 2pm accident, the family from Sitiawan, Perak, were sending a family member to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, whereas the lorry was on its way to Pantai Remis. The dead were driver Yeap Chin Hing, 52, his son, Yeap Soon Keong, 19, daughter Yeap Chin Maei, 25, and their friends, Ling Siew Mooi, 26, and Ling Lee Min, 26.

Chin Hing and his son, who was due to take a flight to Taiwan, died at the scene while the other three died at Tanjung Karang Hospital. Sabak Bernam police chief Superintendent Noor Mushar Mohamad said Chin Hing was overtaking and grazed a sport utility vehicle before crashing into the lorry.

"It is believed that the victim lost control of the car. "The lorry driver and his co-driver, and the driver and passengers of the sport utility vehicle, were not injured."

Noor Mushar said except for Chin Maei, who died at Tanjung Karang Hospital, the bodies of the other four victims were sent to Tengku Ampuan Jemaah Hospital for post-mortems. He urged witnesses to contact the nearest police station to assist investigations.

Soon Keong's grandfather, Lim Min Sin, 76, said his grandson had planned to quit his studies in solar technology in a Taiwanese university. "He told me it was not fun and he wanted to quit.

"I did not know why," said Lim when met at Tengku Ampuan Jemaah Hospital. Lim said Soon Keong was home for a two-month break.
