Five foreigners among eight students arrested for drugs

SHAH ALAM : Eight students, including five foreigners, were arrested and more than RM1.2mil worth of drugs seized in three raids in Selangor. Two siblings from Bulgaria, who had just flew in from Doha, Qatar, were detained at 10.30pm when they were caught with 4.6kg of syabu worth RM1.1mil at the KL International Airport on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old man and his 19-year-old sister, who is a high-school student, were stopped by police, who became suspicious when their bags were being scanned, Selangor Narcotics De_part_ment chief Asst Comm Nordin Kadir said. Police found two bags filled with 2.2kg and 2.4kg of syabu. Earlier at 10am, officers detained a 25-year-old Indian national at the airport and seized a wooden box containing 1.9kg of ketamine, which was worth about RM57,000.

On Thursday, six students, including three Nigerian citizens studying at a private university, were detained when police raided their room in USJ Subang Jaya. Police also seized 1.39kg of heroin worth RM80,000. “The officers arrested five people, including two Nigerians aged 22 and 33. The locals were aged between 19 and 24. “In a follow-up operation, another Nigerian was arrested and 89 packets of heroin were seized,” he added. ACP Nordin said the suspects had been remanded until Sept 8 and 9.
