Five football supporters arrested
KUALA LUMPUR: Five football supporters were arrested by police during the AFF Suzuki Cup final, first-leg match at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
In a statement issued via Facebook, police said the five, in their 20s, were detained for various offences including climbing the stadium wall, throwing bottles, having firecrackers and lighting flares.
It also stated that some of them were arrested for obstructing officers from carrying their duties and being drunk.
The match on Sunday night saw Malaysia taking a 3-0 lead over Indonesia before the second-leg tomorrow.
City police chief Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah confirmed the arrests and said playing with firecrackers and flares were serious offences.
“I am disappointed that some supporters tried to cause mischief during the match,” he added.
