Fishermen find man’s decomposed body
KUANTAN: A highly decomposed body of a man believed to be one of the five fishermen who was reported missing last month, was found some eight nautical miles off the Kuantan coastline.
Kuantan Deputy OCPD Supt Zulki-fli Taha said the body was found by fishermen at about 4pm on Mon-day.
“A team of marine police was deployed to the area and the crew managed to recover the body of a man clad in shorts.
“They returned to Tanjung Gelang naval base at about 9pm on Monday night,” he said here yesterday.
He added that the body was sent to the hospital for a post-mortem, but the identity could not be ascertained due to the highly decomposed condition.
Supt Zulkilfli said tissue samples would be sent to Kuala Lumpur for DNA testing as the body could be one of the five people who went missing on Dec 30.
It was earlier reported that four crew members from Thailand and a Malaysian went missing after their fishing vessel capsized in rough seas 17 nautical miles off here on Dec 30.
On Jan 3, members of a search and rescue mission mounted to look for them found a body, but failed to retrieve it due to rough weather. A second body was found the next day.
The five people were identified as skipper Tang Kiew Kun, 62, who is a local, while the rest, identified only as Wuttichai, 28, Phongsak, 28, Anan, 25, and Sai, 20 were from Thailand.
