A 34-year-old woman has won 80,000 yuan ($12,000) in compensation in China’s first case of cyber homosexual harassment, Jinlin Evening News reported Wednesday. Huang Xiaoyan (alias), from Nanjing, sued the other woman claiming three years of unwanted online lesbian torment.
Huang met an Internet user called “Beautiful Mood” (BM) in 2007 through another Internet friend who is BM's husband. At first the two women chatted online in a friendly manner, but soon BM started to display intimate affections towards Huang, using sexual descriptions. After noticing the unwanted attention Huang ended her online conversations.
BM then started a volley of email and SMS messages, even at Huang’s workplace. Huang said she was forced to quit her job and started suffering from mental illness due to the stress of the ordeal. In May 2009 she sued BM in Nanjing Gulou Distric Court for 80,000 yuan in compensation. After 16-months she won the case.
