Michelle Yeoh as Aung San Suu Kyi

International star Michelle Yeoh looked every bit like the real Aung San Suu Kyi when a photo of her in the tentatively-named movie The Lady was revealed.

Moved and encouraged by Aung San Suu Kyi's story, Michelle travelled to Myanmar personally to visit the woman earlier this month.

The 48-year-old actress revealed her interest to bring the leader's story to the silver screens.

The Hong Kong-based Malaysian actress and French director Luc Besson had began filming secretly in Oxford University, England for three weeks now.

The 65-year-old Aung San Suu Kyi is seen as a figure who fought against the military junta.

She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991 and was until recently, under house arrest for the last 15 years.

Eleven years ago, her cancer-stricken husband Michael Aris applied for a visa to Myanmar to see his wife for the last time, but was rejected by the military government.

Aung San Suu Kyi ultimately did not see her husband before he died. On Nov 13, the leader was finally released and she met her youngest son Kim Aris for the first time in 10 years.

According to Empire, a British film magazine, the movie has begun shooting at Oxford University.

The movie is helmed by French director Luc Besson, who is known for films like The Big Blue and The Fifth Element.

David Thewlis, who plays Professor Remus Lupis in the Harry Potter
franchise, would be playing Aung San Suu Kyi's husband, Michael.

The film will tell the heart-wrenching story of Aung San Suu Kyi's farewell from her husband and children to begin her fight for democracy in Myanmar in 1988 until the death of her husband in 1999.

"My first words to her were 'You're too thin'. I feel at peace when I'm beside her," said Michelle.

The Lady is slated for a worldwide release in August next year.
