A raging fire early Wednesday ripped through a Wal-Mart supermarket in Dalian, the seaport city
in northeast China's Liaoning Province, local authorities have said.
The fire is reported to have broken out around 09:00 on the supermarket's top floor, setting of heavy
smoke throughout the premises, a spokesperson with the city's emergency response office said.

Fifty-two fire engines with 210 firefighters were dispatched to the scene. The fire was extinguished at
around 11 a.m., a spokesman with the city's emergency response office said.
There were no customers as the outlet was not open when the fire broke out. Six people working inside
were rescued.
Local authorities sent more than 240 police officers to maintain order and calm in the nearby areas.
Investigations are underway to confirm the fire cause.
