WASHINGTON: Retail major Wal-Mart has recalled a total of 4.2 million Chinese DVD players sold in the US, due to concerns of fire and
burn hazards.

Last month, the retailer voluntarily recalled 1.5 million of the China-made Durabrand DVD players.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission, in co-operation with Wal-Mart has announced a voluntary recall of the DVD players.

"The DVD player's circuit board can overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers," the US Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a statement on Tuesday.

These products were sold at Wal-Mart stores nationwide for $29, from January 2006 through July 2009.

"Wal-Mart has received 14 reports of DVD players overheating, seven of which have resulted in fires that caused property damage. No injuries have been reported," the statement noted.

The recall has been expanded to include the pink and purple-coloured product. In August, the retailer recalled silver Durabrand DVD players.
