Fined for threatening cabby

A MAN who refused to pay his cab fare was fined $4,000 on Monday for behaving in a threatening manner towards the taxi driver.
Shanmuganathan Kandasami, 37, admitted to holding a 12cm-long knife, staring and walking towards cabby Seah Tong Seng, 46, in a threatening manner outside his flat at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 on Aug 23 last year.
The court heard that Shanmuganathan had hailed the Comfort taxi along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4 to go to Avenue 10 at around midnight that day.
He smelt of alcohol and spat inside the cab along the journey.
When he did not tell the driver which block he wanted to go to, Mr Seah drove him to a police station where Shanmuganathan revealed his destination.
But when he was taken there, he refused to pay the $8.70 cab fare.
As requested, Mr Seah followed him to his home to collect the fare.
Instead, Shanmuganathan emerged with a knife in his hand and walked towards Mr Seah in a threatening manner. Mr Seah became alarmed and ran to the ground floor to call the police.
The fare has since been paid.
He could have been fined up to $5,000.
