Fined for molest, loansharking

A 56-YEAR-OLD cabbie was fined $22,000 after he pleaded guilty to two charges - one of outrage of modesty of a teenager and one of aiding an unlicensed moneylender in his activities.
Two other similar charges were taken into consideration during his sentencing.
The court heard on Monday that Heng Swee Weng picked up a 15-year-old Australian student, who had flagged his cab down at Bedok Road on the evening of Nov 1 last year.
He offered her a free ride after she told him she was lost and had no money for the fare. But instead of sending her home, he drove to Harvey Avenue, off Upper Changi Road, where he hugged her after she got out of the cab. He left after she struggled free.
The court also heard that Heng was unable to repay a $500 loan he took from an unlicensed moneylender in April 2007. In June the following year, he collected an ATM card from Madam Lee Yoke Yee, 30, in Tampines, as directed by the moneylender.
