Fighter from secret society jailed for rioting
By Elena Chong
A SECURITY officer was jailed for 12 months on Tuesday for gang-related offences and breaching a personal protection order.
Eswaran Pannirselvam, 31, pleaded guilty to rioting and being a fighter of a secret society.
He also admitted to contravening the personal protection order granted to his sister, Vikneshwari, 26, in 2006 by kicking her knee at their flat in Toa Payoh on Nov 5 last year (2010). He had two similar convictions.
The court heard that Eswaran joined his friend Ahmad Zahir Ismail alias Ahmad Zahir Abdullah's secret society as a fighter last December. Zahir, 19, a headman of a gang operating in Kallang, placed a 15-year-old gang member under Eswaran's care.
When three victims - all aged 15 - said that they wished to leave the gang, Zahir met them at Block 234 Toa Payoh Lorong 7 on March 16. Zahir then called Eswaran and five other accomplices to the scene.
They repeatedly punched and kicked the three victims before allowing them to leave. In the same court, Zahir also admitted to six of 10 charges, including rioting, extortion and robbery.
Community Court Judge Ng Peng Hong will sentence him on Aug 16, pending a reformative training report.
