A red Ferrari 599 sports car, reportedly bought for more than HK$4 million several years ago, was badly damaged in a collision with a lorry outside Sha Tin racecourse this morning.
Its 43-year-old driver, Ho Chak-tung, escaped serious injury in the crash that happened on an unnamed path outside the racecourse’s grandstand off the Sha Tin section of Tai Po Road at about 8.30am.
The Ferrari was travelling towards Sha Tin while the lorry was in the opposite lane heading towards Tai Po, according to police.
“The driver claimed he lost control of his car, crossed the opposite lane and slammed into the lorry while swerving right to avoid hitting an unknown animal,” a police spokeswoman said.
The Ferrari suffered extensive damage to its front after it rammed into the right front of the lorry.

Its bonnet was twisted and distorted and the front bumper was broken into pieces due to the impact of the crash. Debris scattered on the road and the safety airbags were inflated.
According to police, Ho complained of chest pain while the lorry driver, 42, was slightly injured in the neck and waist. The lorry passenger, 43, complained of feeling dizzy.
The spokeswoman said the three suffered minor injuries and no one was trapped in the vehicles.
The three men were taken conscious to Prince of Wales Hospital for treatment.
Police said the two drivers passed a breathalyser test. No one was arrested.
Officers from the New Territories South traffic unit are investigating.
