19-year-old Chinese national arrested for stealing S$150k worth of items

SINGAPORE: The police have arrested a 19-year-old Chinese national for at least 20 cases of break-ins at low-rise apartments in Singapore.
Police say the youth stole cash, jewellery, laptops, branded watches and other valuables totalling some S$150,000.
He is believed to have committed the crimes between October 2008 and April 2009 at apartments in Hougang, Serangoon and Telok Kurau.
Upon his arrest, some S$50,000 worth of stolen items were recovered from his rental flat in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10.
Police say the suspect had also overstayed in Singapore for more than 90 days without approval from the immigration authorities.
He will be charged in court on Saturday for housebreaking and theft by day and faces up to 10 years' jail.
