Commentary: The feeling of being home again at the election rally
Attended the Workers' Party rally last night at Bedok Stadium, my first for this election. To say that the whole place was crowded is an understatement. It was should-to-shoulder standing room only. Despite the discomfort, for the first time in 5 years, I felt that I was home again. Standing all around me were my fellow Singaporeans, with our familiar accent and Singlish. For the past 5 years, with foreigners all around me everywhere I go, I felt like a stranger in my own country. Last night at Bedok Stadium, I felt that I was in Singapore again. In fact, I made a few new friends there and we exchanged name cards, promising to keep in touch thereafter. Sadly, there is only 5 days left to enjoy that 'home' feeling in these rallies. Then we are back to being stranger in this country for the next five years.
