David Farnham's son was found by police thirsty, crying but otherwise unharmed inside the car, where the temperature soared to 30 degrees Celsius (87 Farenheit) on Saturday evening.
A passerby alerted police to the child's predicament, the daily said.
Police interrupted the showing of 'The Dark Knight', in a multi-cinema complex of Utah capital Salt Lake City, and arrested Farnham on the spot.
He is being held in a county jail on US 20,000 dollars bail awaiting trial on child abuse charges. His son is in his mother's care. According to his jail booking statement, Farnham said he left his child inside the car because he had fallen asleep, and that he rolled up the car windows 'so the child could not be taken out'. Batman sequel 'The Dark Knight' set a new North American box-office record last weekend as audiences flocked to see late actor Heath Ledger in his last completed film role. In three days, it raked in 158.4 million dollars. (S$215 million) -- AFP
