Getting fired at 40 is like getting cancer terminal stage.
Forgot to add something. England o level is C6 but good enough for me to earn a living.Have to disagree. I retired after my 40th birthday. I got lots of job offer both in sinkingland and LOS.
Of course i turned all down.
Those who are in this situation are non-performers. If good performer, no employer will let go one. This coming from an o level 5 credit.

Johnny, pai seh to say. The company does not need you more than than you need the company. And that's why they dare to pull such stunt. You would think so but unfortunately this isn't always the case in Spore
If you are too good, people will see you as a threat. I worked in one company & saw how the GM would go about went sabotaging the people who were "too" good. He did it to maintain his position.
It was one of the worst companies I've ever worked in:o When people left the company, this GM would make sure they never got their pro-rated CPF & leave.
In my case when I left the company I even got a bill for the leave I had already taken. By right I was entitled to the pro-rated leave but the GM had his own ideas![]()

Does this apply to Singaporeans?

OK, fair. You made a right choice to leave a sinking ship.I can tell you there was plenty of drama in that company.
The HR manager got into a heated argument with the director while we were having a meeting. He then quite on the spot & left with some old timers & tried to take the companies clients away. Then the police got involved because the HR manager was taking kick backs from the malaysian workersAn example of what can happen when there is too much internal politics.
I was fortunate & got an offer from another american company because I had experience & good references from my ex-bosses . However many Sporeans are not as fortunate & I think many are too afraid to take chances with their jobs. Many of them have bills to pay & can't afford to lose their jobs.

On the bills, everyone have to pay their bills. You, me, forum host (though he cheapskate enough to charge into his 'business' (no one know what is his 'business'. Could be another TUA KANG YAO SIU sitting in front of his PC (not MAC) in Toa Payoh, reading photography magazines)), Ah Tiongs and Ah Nehs need to pay bills. No difference.
Only difference is some feel hurt (like the forum host and has to charged his little internet bills to his business) while others feel it's part of life. Everyone pay bills (but cheapskate feel hurt paying bills).
