"So let us prepare for a very tough year ahead and let us be psychologically raedy to think in terms of several slow years after that." PM Lee said.

Last month the government said in its budget it would for the first time tap government reserves to pay for a stimulus package to help companies and save jobs, as the country grapples with its worst-ever recession.

Singapore's non-oil exports fell 34.8 percent in January from a year earlier, the worst fall since records began in 1977, and analysts said the worst is yet to come.

Lee said the next two quarters would be "especially tough and let's fasten seat belts." *

A good for nothing PM (Pinky Minister). All they are good for is siphoning off money from their own population and stiflling any clear opposition.

After 40+ years of total control over the population from everything starting from childbirth right up to retirement and almost everything in between, these scums have no real plan other than to weather the storm and then to wait for others to pick up speed. Even an idiot would have said the same thing.

That is a dead give away, because he spoke of his own position:

He is fastening SEAT belts to keep his own lame ass in the PM's seat, it is going through a very violent shackings = Rock & Rolls. It is a series of rough roller coaster ride for his lame ASS.

Clown Prince Lee tell peasants to fasten their seat belts.

Such hypocrisy.

He takes home millions annual DESPITE DEPRESSION-LIKE RECESSION because of DYNASTIC SUCCESSION. He tell peasants to endure price/tax hikes and take home lower pay so that MNCs continue to invest and pay taxes to his regime.

He loves the poor so much that he is willing to 'TAX THE POOR TO HELP THE POOR'.

His LEE IMPERIAL FAMILY's BILLIONS are safe from disclosure because THARMAN REPEALS ESTATE TAXES.

What a gall?!

It's about time that the Gov't review ministers and high level public servant pay. I can't fathom the kind of pay the Singapore PM and President is getting especially in current mkt situation. U.S. Gov't limits the pay for CEO of companies that gets bailout money. Singapore is also getting bailout money from reserves and so starting from President/PM to senior grade Gov't employees, there should be serious cuts during this economic crisis.

What is 20% of $3 million ? USA limiting CEO pay to US$500K per annual. Do the PM really need that much ? USA President is not even getting a million dollars a year. Bear in mind the present Gov't is asking for bailout money from reserve. They are encouraging companies to work out cost cutting to keep staff employed. Singapore Gov't should lead the way in more serious cost cutting even if it is temporary.

Singapore Gov't should also review their old head count, i.e. MM Lee. He has done an awesome job for Singapore but he is now 85 years old. Would any company keep a staff that is 85 years old & pay him that much ? This is one case of way past expiry date. Senior Minister Goh should be able to fill the role of MM Lee after his retirement. MM is not a lifetime role and no matter how valuable is his experience, it's about time he retires. He can still serve Singapore as an MP without the title & the pay. Does he really need the money, at his age I think not.

They don't need that much, they want that much.
And they will get it and continue to get it, unless we tell them otherwise at the polls.

20% paycut is nothing.
They should give back 20% of their net assets to stimulate the economy and help the poor.
