THE former Queenstown Remand Prison, through which the last inmate tramped five months ago, will today host a new captive audience.

They are the guests catching fashion label ck Calvin Klein's Spring 2010 collection, which will make its debut in the former jailhouse off Margaret Drive.

It is the first time a commercial event is being held there since the prison ceased operations last August.

This makes it the latest in a line of government buildings given a new lease of life, although the Singapore Prison Service is at the moment treating this as a one-off event and has not lined up any other 'do' there.

Other government buildings given a makeover to serve new uses include the former Central Police Station in Beach Road, the former Traffic Police headquarters in Maxwell Road and the former Bukit Timah Fire Station, which are now being used as a school, a museum, and an entertainment venue respectively.

Retail giant Club 21, which is licensed to distribute, market and operate boutiques for ck Calvin Klein in Europe and Asia, procured the former prison as the venue for the show.
