Sibling scheme should remain for Singaporeans

Letter from Chan Hean Boon

I refer to the report "HDB scraps sibling scheme" (Feb 15).

I cannot comprehend the decision to completely abolish the Housing Board's citizen-Singapore PR sibling scheme.

While Singaporeans may be unhappy with the seemingly unfair policy in which the conditions appear to favour permanent resident (PR) siblings rather than citizen siblings, the immaterial number of such HDB transactions does not warrant justification to terminate the scheme.

It should have remained, catering only for citizen siblings.

Singaporeans appreciate the Government's attempts to "sharpen" the distinction and benefits between citizens and PRs in recent years.

However, such moves seem to run contrary to the efforts. Are we afraid of driving away PRs so much that any change in policies that affect PRs may have implications for citizens as well?

Let us take the Primary 1 registration exercise, for instance.

Last year, to show that Singaporeans matter, the Ministry of Education announced an extra ticket for citizens over PRs in balloting. However, citizens staying within 2km of the school should be granted a place rather than be allocated an extra ballot to "fight it out" with PRs because, ultimately, an element of luck is still required.

I strongly urge the Government to continue to put Singaporeans first. Yes, citizens enjoy hassle-free travel with the red passport and Budget surpluses. Unfortunately, with the huge influx of foreigners over the years and more to come, Singaporeans have started to question how citizens differ from foreigners and, in particular, PRs.

It is like punishing Singaporeans for voicing out the loopholes of granting PR siblings HDB flat. Now the scheme scaps Singaporeans siblings completely from buying a home.

ONce a traitor is forever a traitor. Like we mentioned many times, PAP is a traitor to Singaporeans, betrayed the people trust, encourage gamblings, sell our national assets, lose billions of our tax monies overseas and let foreigners invade our territory in the name of Foreign "talent". What a perfect storm for Singaporeans to bear.". p

Times have changed....... now it's the FTs that are making decisions for the locals

A few days ago I accompanied an old friend to his former constituency's CNY dinner as he had fractured his leg and needs help moving around in his wheelchair..... he used to be an RC chairman there until he moved to a a new home in another constituency so he stopped serving in the RC...... as we were early for the dinner...... we went to the organising committee's "office" at the CC next door......as we mingled and chat with the committee members I realised that quite a number of them were foreigners who were either holding PRs or were recently converted citizens.

Out of curiosity.... I went to look at the constituency's various committees' member listing..... KNN the foreigners on the committees outnumber the locals 2 : 1  ........ during the dinner I purposedly look for an opportunity to ask the MP why aren't the locals serving on the commiittees?

That mudderfricker MP just smiled sheepishly and din't want to answer and kept looking at the CCC chairman...... who finally came up with this line.... "oh the foreigners are as good as the locals, sooner or later they will be singapore citizens too."

KNNCCB...... FTs serving on the committees are making the decisions...... no wonder singkies are fucked!!
