Sheng Siong can jolly well increase rental up to 100percent if they feel like it as they are the rightful owners now.
This is after all , what we call a free market...they are free to up their rentals which will translate to higher goods prices and we are free not to buy from them . Nobody is putting a gun to anyone's head to coerce them into buying.
But hey! Wouldn't you guys love to see the look on your MP's face when you guys from wards that have no public wet markets and hawker centres ask during the coming elections: "If I vote for you , would your supposedly-not-related-to-PAP town council be nice to me and the good folks and build us a nice PUBLIC Wet Market cum Hawker Centre like those in the older estates?
An MP's job is to listen to the residents' needs. If the MP budges and really builds a public market , Sheng Siong will be screwed and this will deter future unnecesary rental hikes or takeovers or the existence of private markets.
If the Public Market is not built(which I bet my last dollar on) , residents will be pissed off with the MP and votes will go to the opposition camp.
I for one , would rather the new markets to be built . Afterall, it's for the benefit of every citizen to have cheaper food alternatives.
So spread the words to your neighbours.. tell them to pressurize their MPs on this issue... Afterall, they are here to serve us, right?
