MR MUHAMMAD YUSUF OSMAN: 'Political observer Eugene Tan was quoted in Monday's report ('YUP, teens can take part in PAP activities') as saying that it is good to engage the young in politics but that such political education should not be partisan. What we need more of is not political education but critical and rigorous thinking in our education system set up by a non-partisan committee. The details of the members in this committee should be made public and all political affiliations they have be declared to ensure it is genuinely non-partisan. If this is unavoidable, then representatives from all parties should be included in the committee to ensure that the curriculum is not slanted to favour one over another. A rigorous education in critical thinking will result in an engaged citizenry willing to set the direction for the country in the long run.'
