The handwriting of two different men can be used to insist that they are the same men and history can be changed just by comparing handwriting alone, it seems.
Prime minister Lee Hsien Loong brought out two documents to try to justify the government's version of "history".
"I took these photos of a fascinating exhibit: a pair of original handwritten documents," he wrote on his Facebook page.
"One was a trade union document, signed 林清祥 Lim Chin Siong. He was the leader of the Barisan Sosialis, the main open front political party. The other was a Communist study cell document, signed 王明 Wang Ming.
"The handwriting was identical," Mr Lee claimed.
"In fact Wang Ming was Lim Chin Siong’s party name; Communist cadres took party names to conceal their real identities.
"So Lim Chin Siong was a Communist, and the Barisan Sosialis was Communist controlled."
And in one fell swoop, history is changed, because Mr Lee became an expert in handwriting and could tell that the handwriting was "identical".
Readers can take a look at the documents and decide for themselves i the "handwriting was identical".
Mr Lee also insisted that, "The British have been declassifying documents from their archives in London, and making them available to the public.
"And (these) leave no doubt that the Barisan was formed at the instigation of the CPM, and that Lim Chin Siong was a Communist cadre."
Mr Lee was trying to paint black the name of Lim Chin Siong.
Mr Lee was responding to recent revelations about the PAP's government's role in arresting 113 opposition politicians and labour unionists and imprisoned them without trial, some for more than 20 or 30 years.
One of them was Barisan Sosialis's Secretary-General Lim Chin Siong.
Mr Lim had founded the People's Action Party (PAP) together with ex-prime minister and current prime minister's father Lee Kuan Yew but decided to part ways because he also disagreed with Mr Lee's direction.
Mr Lim later set up the Barisan Sosialis party and was later arrested by the older Lee.
The older Lee, like the younger Lee and current prime minister, accused Mr Lim of being a communist "infiltrated" by the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM).
"The Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) was a violent, illegal organisation," Mr Lee highlighted on his Facebook.
However, historian Thum Ping Tjin had studied the declassified British documents and disagreed with the government's version of its history.
"But the Communists infiltrated open, legal organisations like trade unions, student associations and political parties. These supported the Communist cause, but denied that they themselves were Communist," the younger prime minister Lee said.
He said that his father "exposed" this "infiltration".
"Mr Lee exposed this Communist united front tactic," the younger Lee insisted.
However, Dr Thum has studied the declassified British documents and showed that what the PAP government claims is not true.
Former Deputy High Commissioner to Singapore Philip Moore said in his report to London in July 1962, “while we accept Lim Chin Siong is a Communist, there is no evidence that he is receiving his orders from the MCP, Peking or Moscow.
"Our impression is that Lim is working very much on his own and that the primary objective is not communist millennium, but to obtain control of the constitutional government of Singapore.”
Mr Lim wanted to fight for the independence of Singapore.
Dr Thum also said on his Facebook, "The government can and should clear this entire controversy up by declassifying its own documents. It has no need to cite British documents when it has its own.
"As a historian, I would be happy to modify my arguments based upon the government archives. Its unwillingness to do so weakens its own case.
"Please declassify the archives and let us know the truth once and for all. I would be delighted by this even if it proved me wrong," Dr Thum said.
"The truth is what matters."

"We have put together an account using evidence from the British archives as well as CPM sources, which confirm that Mr Lee Kuan Yew told the truth," Mr Lee insisted.
Mr Lee was referring to the Battle for Merger exhibition that the PAP government put up.
However, a Singaporean, Ng Yi-Sheng, who had visited the exhibition at the Jurong Regional Library later wrote a letter to the library to point out "a disturbing error in one of your exhibitions".
He quoted the following paragraph in the exhibition: “The Communist Threat persisted into the 1980s. This included efforts to make inroads into English-educated groups and to systematically infiltrate and subvert lawfully-established organisations which included student and para-church groups. The aim was to destabilise the country and to establish a Marxist state.”
"These claims are untrue," he said.
"The ex-detainees deny this version of events. Multiple historians also dispute the government’s account.
"Their “confessions” were made under duress and conditions of deprivation and torture. This has been documented in ex-detainee Teo Soh Lung’s memoir “Beyond the Blue Gate”, which is available in your library."
However, the PAP government continues to insist that these others, who have quoted evidence from declassified British documents and actual accounts, as "revisionists" and refuses to also release its own documents, as Dr Thum had requested.
Instead, the PAP government continues to uphold only its version of the "truth" and deride the facts of others, even as these are facts revealed by historical documents.
Mr Lee continued to want to insist that his father, "Mr Lee Kuan Yew told the truth".
But Mr Lim had called the arrests by the older Lee a "set-up".

The older Lee had wanted to eliminate his political opponents.
After 50 years of eliminating the opposition in Singapore, the Singapore today is what you get - twenty years of fast-paced development which brought Singapore to its golden years up until the mid-1990s but something which is now a pipe dream for many Singaporeans today where livelihoods have become difficult for many as wages stagnated and the cost of living continues to rise beyond the means of many.
Perhaps this is why the PAP government is anxious to put out only its version of the "truth", as it holds on fearfully to its loose control of government, having turned its back on the lives of Singaporeans.
Interestingly, there is indeed a Wang Ming who lived from 1904 to 1974 and was a senior leader of the early Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in China. Perhaps Mr Lee, whose government has now become so close with the CCP, might do well to reach out to the Chinese government to find out more about who this "other" Wang Ming is and this might just help him resolve his confusion over handwritings.
