What was supposed to be a joyous birthday dinner turned out to be an awful experience for Cher Wong and her family. The shark's fin they ordered was rubbery and tasted more like sea cucumber, and the attitude of the staff was disappointing.

Says the STOMPer:

"I was at a seafood restaurant at Turf City yesterday to celebrate my nephew's birthday and was extremly disappointed with their shark's fin abalone soup at $28 per bowl.

"We ordered 3 bowls and the shark's fin came out to be starchy.

"The shark's fin was so rubbery that you could hardly chew and swallow, it was sort of like sea cucumber and it really tasted awful.

"we told the waiter, and the answer was 'it is meant to be this way', so we took the bowl of shark's fin to the cashier and asked to speak to the manager.

"The cashier still asked what was on the plate that we were showing her.

"Even she could not tell that's shark's fin!

"She called the manager but yet we waited for 10 to 15 minutes and no one showed up to solve the problem.

"The waiter even said we should eat it while it is hot, so that the shark's fin won't taste rubbery. Have you heard that before?

"The manager refused to solve the problem, not even a discount or an offer to change a new bowl.

"We paid $230+ for our disgusting dinner that night. $98.80 just for the 3 bowls of 'meant to be this way' shark's fin! Yucks!

"Does this look like shark's fin to you?"

This is really incompetent of the restaurant's owner. If you want to cheat, at least do it the right way, like the Majestic Restaurant years ago. If not for a tip-off I don't think the Majestic would have been exposed. They processed and cooked the cartilage of stingrays the same way as sharkfins. As they are from the same family, it is almost impossible to differentiate. Even connoiseurs were duped.
