Fake rape claim: Woman jailed
<!-- by line --> <!-- end by line --> NEW YORK - A NEW York woman whose false accusation of rape led to an innocent man being jailed for nearly four years has been sentenced to prison after admitting that she lied. Biurny Peguero, 27, told a judge that she made up the claim in 2005 that she had been raped at knifepoint, New York newspapers reported. She was sentenced to spend between one and three years behind bars. She first confessed the lie to a priest last year. The wrongfully imprisoned man, from the Bronx, was freed shortly after, the New York Post reported. 'What happened in this case is one of the worst things that can happen in our criminal justice system,' Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Charles Solomon said, the Daily News reported. -- AFP
