The New Paper

SINGAPORE - He posed as a doctor in a polyclinic, drugged two elderly women with sleeping pills and then stole from them.

On Friday, Oh Koon Shin, 52, pleaded guilty to a count of administering a stupefying drug to Ms Ching Sui Nai, 62, with the intention of stealing from her handbag.

A similar charge and one of possessing suspected stolen items will be taken into consideration for his sentencing on April 1.

A district court heard that Oh made Ms Koh Jew Tiang, 82, swallow two tablets of Dormicum at Jurong Polyclinic on Dec 28 last year.

The drug made her drowsy and he stole a chain worth $1,400 from her.

The next morning, he approached Ms Ching and claimed to be a specialist doctor.

He gave her four blue-coloured tablets and convinced her to take them.

Later, Oh approached her again when she was queueing up for her medication.

He offered to pay for and collect the medication for her, and gave her another four pills.

She felt drowsy after taking them and Oh was then seen rummaging through her bag and removing a ring from her finger.

The police later arrested Oh.

Ms Ching was admitted to the National University Hospital for observation after taking eight diazepam pills. The court heard that the pills had been prescribed to Oh for his insomnia.
